Le Livre d'Artiste
Generally acknowledged as a French invention dating from the early 1800s, Le Livre d'Artiste or Livre d'Art is the symbiotic association of the written word and the artistic expression in an attempt to create a uniquely complex and textured work of art. A Livre d'Art is a book illustrated by signed and numbered original works of art and edited in limited numbers. It differs from the single work of art such as a painting or a sculpture in that the latter offers an immediate synthetic reading upon its first visualization. A Livre d'Art must be handled and analyzed as to the quality of the paper, the text, the images, the equilibrium of the font and in its composition. Some of the more famous Livre d'Art have been created by Ambroise Vollard.

In Rome, Piero Dorazio comments that "...Renzo and Flavia Romero were the first to introduce the Livre d'Art in the French tradition. Books that though of great artistic value [are extremely expensive to create] and have no commercial expectations..." (P.Dorazio, “Romero & Co.A Roma”/, /in /L’Arte a stampa/, Sept-Oct 1978, n.3, p.15).

The Galleria Romero edited a number of Livres d'Art that constitute uniquely valuable works of art of exquisite artistic beauty and craftsmanship.
